Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine single use sterile needles into the body to correct the flow of Qi.

There are 100’s of conditions where acupuncture can be used. Examples include Gynaecological / fertility issues, Migraine / Headaches, Digestive Issues, PMT, cancer care support, Insomnia & Anxiety.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has a full list of conditions, where acupuncture is deemed an effective form of treatment, can be found on the Acupuncture Council of Ireland website. Alternatively, please feel free to call me to discuss if acupuncture is the treatment best suited to you.

Acupuncture treats the root cause of illness but can also improve well-being and prevent disease. A person does not need to be ill or in pain to have acupuncture. It can be used for relaxation, to boost your immune system, increase energy levels and to maintain good health.

Acupuncture FAQs

Does it hurt?
I would be lying if I said that you don’t feel anything because the needle does penetrate the skin. However, the needles are tiny (approx. the width of a hair) so therefore the sensation is very mild and only lasts a split second. The needles are left in place for approximately 30 minutes and most people find this very relaxing.

Where in the body are the needles inserted?
Very often needles are inserted into the legs and arms but this can vary depending on the condition.

What type of clothes should I wear when having acupuncture?
Loose comfortable clothes are ideal but if any outer garments need to be removed, the client’s modesty will be of the utmost importance.

Is acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture when performed by a fully trained practitioner is very safe. All the needles are sterile and disposable.

Are there any side effects?
With the insertion of any needle, there is always the possibility of bruising, but this is rare and usually only very slight. Most people find that they are very relaxed during and after the treatment.
