Frequently Asked Questions

Acupuncture

Does it hurt?
I would be lying if I said that you don’t feel anything because the needle does penetrate the skin. However, the needles are tiny (approx. the width of a hair) so therefore the sensation is very mild and only lasts a split second. The needles are left in place for approx. 30-40mins and most people find this very relaxing.

Where in the body are the needles inserted?
Very often needles are inserted into the legs and arms but this can vary depending on the condition. Loose comfortable clothes are ideal but if any outer garments need to be removed, the client’s modesty will be of the utmost importance.

Is acupuncture safe and are there any side effects?
Acupuncture when performed by a fully trained practitioner is very safe. All the needles are sterile and disposable. With the insertion of any needle, there is always the possibility of bruising, but this is rare and usually only very slight. Most people find that they are very relaxed during and after the treatment.

Do I need to be sick or injured to have acupuncture?
No, acupuncture can be used for an array of different medical conditions and injuries. However, it is a treatment based on creating balance and helping the body work to its fullest capacity. Therefore, it is a system of medicine that can be used for preventative healthcare, to reduce stress and for general wellbeing.

Physical Injuries

What type of injuries do you treat?
I treat soft tissue injuries (muscles, ligaments, tendons) such as strains, sprains and muscles tension. I do not treat skeletal problems or use joint manipulation.

If you are unsure what type of injury you have, we can discuss that over the phone. If you come to my clinic with an injury that I deem to be skeletal, following an assessment, I will you refer you for an appropriate treatment at no cost.

Is there anybody that you don’t treat?
All treatments are available to both male and female. If any clothes need to be removed I will leave the room and towels will be available to cover the client.

What if I have an existing medical condition or if I am pregnant ?
If you have a medical condition or are pregnant, please let me know when booking your appointment, as sometimes treatments need to be tailored slightly, to accommodate the condition.

Do you treat children?
I’m not specialised in working with babies or small children, so my treatments are probably most suitable to those over 8yrs old.

Please Note: When treating Under 18’s and vulnerable adults, a parent or guardian must be present.

General Information

Do you take credit/debit card?
Yes, we do accept payment by credit/debit card. Receipts for payment will be issued after each treatment.

What if I need to cancel?
You will receive a reminder on the day before your appointment. If you do need to cancel your appointment, 24hours notice is required.

When should I book an appointment?
To get the most from your treatment, ideally try to book your appointment on a day when you are not overly busy, as you may feel a little tired afterwards.

Can I exercise after treatment?
It is advisable to avoid excessive exercise for 24-36hours following a treatment, where possible.
